Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, continues to strengthen its industry leadership position as Engineering News-Record (ENR) lists the company in the top seven percent in the magazine’s annual ranking of the Top 500 Design Firms in the United States. According to the 2016 results, Michael Baker’s position—based on 2015 gross revenue—places the company as the 35th largest design firm in the country.

“Michael Baker’s position within the latest ENR rankings demonstrates how our enterprise-wide commitment to leveraging global expertise and experience allows us to take advantage of new growth opportunities,” said Kurt Bergman, CEO of Michael Baker International. “Michael Baker is driving growth and innovation across our markets and practice areas. We aim to deliver excellence as We Make a Difference for our client partners by offering a full continuum of innovative and sustainable solutions that solve their most complex infrastructure challenges.”

Michael Baker is committed to expanding its presence in key markets to better serve the needs of its growing client base and to accommodate high-growth regional trends. In the Southeast and Gulf Coast regions of the U.S.—home to four of the top 10 fastest growing American cities—the firm has established an expansive business development strategy to better meet the public and private demands of the industry, and to draw on the firm’s national expertise by leveraging technology to provide impactful, cost-effective solutions. The company is also positioned for growth in the Gulf Coast, particularly in Texas, as state constitutional amendments to funnel an additional $4-billion per year into state highway improvements go into effect.

Additionally, the company maintains its focus on business growth in a number of target sectors. In the transportation sector—where Michael Baker ranked 13th according to ENR—the company has applied its Geographic Information Technology (GIT) innovations, including the use of mobile LiDAR equipment and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) for inspection work such, to advance business. Michael Baker is also focused on its rail and mass transit business—ranked 25th by ENR —where it is poised to address transport and delivery trends that focus on fuel efficiency and a low carbon footprint.

In addition to the Top 500 Design Firms ranking, Michael Baker was also ranked highly on a number of prominent ENR lists:
