Kurt Bergman, Chief Executive Officer

​​Kurt C. Bergman is the Chief Executive Officer of Michael Baker International.  Mr. Bergman’s previous experience in executive leadership includes his role as President of Integrated Mission Solutions, LLC and Chief Executive Officer of KS International, LLC, where he led the successful integration of three separate businesses and achieved double-digit organic revenue growth in three years.  Prior to joining KSI, Mr. Bergman led the International Contingency Operations Practice at URS Corporation, encompassing all operational capabilities from front end engineering services, environmental response and remediation through professional technical services and construction. Prior to URS, Mr. Bergman led IT and knowledge management solutions and services at MacAulay-Brown, Inc. in support of the United States Air Force (USAF) Overseas Engineering Operations. Previously, Mr. Bergman led similar efforts with TRW/Northrop Grumman.  Mr. Bergman’s prior experience includes leading large scale projects, programs, operations, and business development efforts with each service branch of the Department of Defense and numerous Bureaus within the Department of State.  Before embarking on a career in the private sector, Mr. Bergman was a Civil Engineering Officer with the USAF.  Mr. Bergman holds a B.A. and M.S. in Architecture from Tulane University.

Jeff Hill, Chief Operating Officer, Continental United States

Jeffrey S. Hill is the Chief Operating Officer of Michael Baker International. His leadership responsibilities encompass all Divisions of the company.   He has served as a member of the Operations Committee of Baker since December 2012, managing the day-to-day operations of the company.  Since joining Michael Baker Jr., Inc. in 1989, Mr. Hill has held various positions, including Senior Vice President and Practice Leader for Baker’s Federal, Civil, and Environmental business segments.  In this role, Mr. Hill led the Defense, Federal Civilian Agencies, State & Municipal, Oil & Gas, and Commercial/Industrial Markets as well as the Architecture, Planning & Building Engineering (AEP), Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE), Geospatial Information Technology (GIT), and Pipeline Engineering Practices. Operating in a matrix organization, Mr. Hill led the Federal Team, which is comprised of over 900 professionals performing a full range of studies, planning, design, and construction management services across numerous end markets. Mr. Hill has over 25 years of experience as an operations and project manager managing business operations, market development, project delivery and client satisfaction for Baker’s Environmental and Construction Management Services to Federal Clients.  Prior to these roles, Mr. Hill served as the Program Principal for Baker’s on-going contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Middle East District.  In this position he led Baker engineers performing work throughout the Middle East, Southwest Asia, and Africa.  He also served as Baker’s Board of Directors Representative to the Stanley, Baker, Hill, LLC partnership supporting the U.S. Government Infrastructure Reconstruction Program in Iraq.  Mr. Hill holds a B.S. in Environmental Health from East Carolina University.

Nicholas Gross, Chief Operating Officer, International Operations

Nicholas P. Gross is Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President for International Operations of Michael Baker International. Mr. Gross’s management responsibilities encompass all facets of the organization with the primary responsibility of providing operational leadership for over 4,000 international employees supporting operations that have spanned over 150 countries and six continents.  Mr. Gross brings over 15 years of experience in international management, strategic development, and project execution.  Mr. Gross served as the Chief Operating Officer at KS International since 2011 successfully leading the integration of operations of three separate companies, improving performance and bottom line profitability.  Since joining our organization in 2005, Mr. Gross has also served as the Executive Vice President for Engineering and Professional Services and the Executive Vice President for Defense Programs.  Previous to joining KSI, Mr. Gross was responsible for strategic planning for contingency emergency services for KBR, Inc. in the Middle East. Prior to that time, Mr. Gross worked in a variety of international management positions with DynCorp, KBR, and Northrop Grumman. Mr. Gross holds a B.S. in Business Administration (summa cum laude) from Troy University.

James McKnight, JD, Chief Legal Officer

​​H. James McKnight, J.D., is Chief Legal Officer of Michael Baker International. He has served as executive vice president, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary of Baker since June 2000. He has been employed by Baker since 1995, serving in prior roles as Senior Vice President and Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. Prior to joining Baker, Mr. McKnight served as Corporate Counsel of International Technology Corporation; Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Vectura Group, Inc.; and Group General Counsel of Dravo Corporation. Mr. McKnight holds a B.S. from Pennsylvania State University, a J.D. from Duquesne University and a M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh, Katz Graduate School of Business. His professional affiliations include membership in the American, Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Bar Associations and the American Corporate Counsel Association.

Joseph Bongiovi, Chief Human Resources Officer

Joseph Bongiovi is the Chief Human Resources Officer of Michael Baker International.  Mr. Bongiovi oversees all Human Resources activities including learning and development, talent acquisition and management, compensation and benefits, and retention programs.  Prior to his current position, Mr. Bongiovi was at the University of North Carolina (UNC) in Chapel Hill, NC, as a teaching and research fellow and Assistant Director and Advisor for UNC’s Management and Society Major as well as Faculty Co-advisor for UNC’s Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) chapter.  His previous leadership positions include Vice President, Global Human Resources for Gilbarco Veeder-Root; Managing Director, Human Resources for Marsh Americas; Vice President, Human Resources for RP Sherer Americas; and Vice President, Human Resources for Citibank's NY Consumer Bank.  His early professional HR development experiences were with General Electric’s Human Resources Development Program and PepsiCo’s Pizza Hut Business.  He also served as an officer in the US Army.  Mr. Bongiovi holds a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, a Master of Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University, and a Master of Sociology from UNC.  Mr. Bongiovi is an active participant in the Academy of Management, American Sociological Association, Society for Human Resources Management, Inter-University Seminar on Armed Forces and Society, International Studies Association, and the Latin America Studies Association.

Brian Lutes, Chief Financial Officer

Brian Lutes is the Chief Financial Officer of Michael Baker International.  Mr. Lutes is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the company.  His previous leadership positions include Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Sypris Solutions, Inc.; Chief Financial Officer and Vice Chairman at MAG – Industrial Automation Systems; Chief Financial Officer and Vice President at The Wornick Company; and Senior Vice President - Human Resources at Fifth Third Bancorp.  Mr. Lutes also previously served with the General Electric Company for fifteen years in a number of increasingly responsible executive positions, culminating with his assignment as Chief Financial Officer of Global Operations for GE Medical Systems.  Mr. Lutes holds an MBA from the University of Connecticut School of Business and Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Louisville J.B. Speed School of Engineering, and is a graduate of GE’s Manufacturing Leadership Curriculum and Corporate Audit Staff.

Daniel Horton, Chief Information Officer

Daniel Horton is the Chief Information Officer of Michael Baker International.  He leads the company's global technology innovations and solutions to serve clients worldwide.  Mr. Horton’s responsibility as CIO encompasses information technology that spans the entire company as well as the highest level client needs.  Mr. Horton was formerly the Chief Technology Officer for KS International and has over 20 years of information technology and information security experience working with the intelligence community.  Specializing in acquisitions and integrations, Mr. Horton has been in charge of over a dozen successfully executed DC Capital Partners company migrations, most recently including National Interest Security Company (NISC).  Holding the knowledge and certifications in CISA, CGEIT, CITP, ISST, CIP, CMMI, ITIL and COBIT5 brings the broad knowledge of process improvement, security, governance, risk, audit control and strategic alignment needed to ensure an efficient and effective IT program is in place and maintained.  Mr. Horton was appointed to his role as CIO within the inaugural months of the forming of Michael Baker International with the acquisition of Michael Baker Corporation.  His professional affiliations include membership in the Institute of Internal Auditors, Information Systems Audit and Control Association, Information Systems Security Association, Association of Information Technology Professionals, Association for Information Management, Project Management Institute and the American Management Association.

Beth M. Foley, Chief Communications Officer

Beth M. Foley is Chief Communications Officer of Michael Baker International.  She is responsible for advertising, branding, community relations, corporate communications and marketing communications.  Ms. Foley has extensive experience leading integrated corporate affairs functions in the public and private sectors, from start-ups to Fortune 200 companies.

Before joining Michael Baker International, Ms. Foley served as senior director of corporate communications for Pacific Gas and Electric Company, an energy company that serves 1 in 20 Americans.  Prior senior leadership positions include: vice president of corporate marketing and communications for GSI Commerce (now an eBay company); vice president of corporate communications for Radian Group, Inc., an international financial services company; manager of corporate communications for PJM Interconnection, which operates the electric grid serving 13 states and the District of Columbia; and principal for Progress Energy, now Duke Energy, the largest electric power holding company in the United States.  She has also held leadership positions in both agency and government settings.

Ms. Foley serves intermittently as an adjunct professor at the University of New York–Prague, as part of La Salle University's Professional and Business Communication Master’s degree program.  She earned her Master of Arts in Professional Communications from La Salle University, her Executive Master of Business Administration from Villanova University and her Bachelor of Arts from Bloomsburg University.  Ms. Foley is a recipient of La Salle University’s 2013 Shining Star Award. She is an alumnus of Leadership Philadelphia and Leadership California.
