CTfastrak is Connecticut's bus rapid transit (BRT) solution to improve mobility and manage congestion in the I-84 New Britain to Hartford corridor. The dedicated 9.4-mile busway, which includes eight neighborhood stations and the two terminal stations in New Britain and Hartford, will serve as the spine of Central Connecticut’s regional transit system. The Michael Baker International team has been involved in all aspects of project including the design, construction management and implementation. Currently serving as the program manager, Michael Baker is coordinating the finalization of the service plan, procurement of operating services, development and installation of the new fare technology, and the design and set-up of the operations control center. During earlier phases of the project, Michael Baker International staff performed survey, preliminary design, final design (structural, civil, utility, drainage, and track design), environmental support, right-of-way services, constructability reviews, and review of all final design packages. The responsibilities included coordination among four line designers, one station designer, and four municipalities. In addition to providing end-to-end services, Michael Baker International has provided the leadership necessary to coordinate this nearly $600 million project that will be the centerpiece of an inter-connected mass transit system designed to reduce traffic along the heavily congested I-84 corridor in central Connecticut.
