Michael Baker International was selected by the City of Norfolk, Virginia to design a multi-modal transportation center complex adjacent to the Elizabeth River and the Harbor Park baseball stadium, near Hampton Roads harbor. With the recent opening of Norfolk’s new light rail system and its funding for the first phase of this transportation center, the City has demonstrated a true commitment to rail transit. Michael Baker understands that a successful passenger rail terminal in Norfolk will become a catalyst for future transit-oriented development, helps revitalize neighborhoods, and provide seamless connections to the City by means of an improved travel experience. Specifically, Michael Baker has provided architectural and engineering design, landscape architecture, and interior design services for a new Amtrak railroad passenger terminal, platform canopies and associated site work and landscaping for Phase I of the multi-phase/multi-year project.
