Michael Baker International performed a comprehensive assessment of coastal flooding and sea level rise impacts on four airports: John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in New York, and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Teterboro Airport (TEB) in New Jersey. Michael Baker International's services included preparation of guidance on use of climate change projections, development of a critical airport infrastructure inventory, a detailed vulnerability assessment, a statistical evaluation of future airport shutdown potential, and development of conceptual climate adaptation strategies. Results from this project are advancing the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s understanding of the effects of climate change on airport infrastructure and guiding decision-making in the selection of effective adaptation actions. Given the importance of these airports to international transportation, Michael Baker’s work is helping to secure and maintain both national and international commerce well into the 21st century.
